Posted September 21, 2018 09:01:18The pharmaceutical industry employs over 10,000 people across Australia, with the biggest concentration in regional Australia.
The Pharmaceutical Services Association of Australia (PSA) has identified a number of job opportunities in regional and regional-specific sectors in regional Victoria.
The PSA’s chief executive officer, Craig Mackinlay, said the sector had seen strong growth over the last four years.
“It’s been really great, we’ve seen a really good rebound in pharma, it’s really strong,” he said.
“We’ve had the big jump in demand and we’ve had a lot of growth in the market in the last year.”
He said the PSA had seen a lot more activity in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
“What we’re seeing is a lot less consolidation and a lot easier for smaller pharma companies to access that,” Mr Mackinlays said.
He said it was a good thing the industry was moving towards digitalisation and it would allow more jobs to be created.
“The opportunity is now to be able to access pharmaceuticals, access it via mobile devices, access online through a variety of avenues, so it’s a really exciting time for pharma in Victoria,” he explained.
The pharmaceuticals sector is booming in the state.
In 2014-15, the state recorded almost 7,000 more new pharma jobs than the previous year.
The region saw almost 1,000 additional jobs in that year.
Mr Mackinlett said it could take a while for the industry to get a foothold in Victoria.
“There are a lot going on right now in the supply chain, it will take time to be competitive in Victoria but it’s an exciting time to see the pharmaceuticals industry in Victoria grow and that’s what we need,” he added.
